Claude Code, Hermes Agent or Muse? Picking Your Agent in 2026

Choosing an agent feels like choosing a phone in 2007 — everything is moving fast, and everyone has an opinion. Here is the simple version, from people who set all three up for clients.

Claude Code — the specialist

Claude Code lives inside your codebase. It reads a project, writes and edits code, runs tests, and commits — a superb pair-programmer for developers and technical founders. If your work starts in a repository, start here.

Hermes Agent — the always-on generalist

Hermes Agent (from Nous Research) lives on a server — often your own small computer or VPS. It remembers across sessions, builds reusable skills, works through chat channels, and runs scheduled jobs while you sleep. If you want a persistent digital staff member, this is the one.

Muse — the friendly all-rounder

Meta’s Muse is an accessible everyday agent: research, shopping, documents, coordination. For many freelancers and small teams it is the easiest first agent to live with day to day.

The good news: it is not either-or

Because all three speak MCP, the same app connections serve every agent. A common pattern we set up: Hermes as the always-on supervisor holding memory and schedules, Claude Code called in for serious coding sessions, Muse for everyday front-of-house tasks. Your connections — and everything your agents have learned about your business — stay yours whichever way you lean.

Not sure? Tell us your week on a short call and we will recommend the combination honestly — including when one agent is enough.
